   Rhosgrug1

Megalithic Calendar alignment from S1, Llananno to Rhoscrug1, Llanbister.

Spring90d
February 1990
W/7.5.1            These close set twin tumuli lie very near to the centre of the rising Sun on the first days of Megalithic Calendar Intervals nos: 10.5 and 15.5.
Several photographs have been secured of this alignment at sunrises when the solar declination is at or near the ideal value for CIs 10.5 and 15.5. Always the tumuli sit within a few arc minutes of the centre of the Sun when the disc has half risen on the horizon.

W/7.5.2            Alignments indicating the centre of the solar disc are not as common as upper and lower limb foresights due, possibly, to the difficulty of observing directly into the full blaze of the Sun.

W/7.5.3  These two tumuli are set with their skirts touching, so close that they appear as one from most directions to the east and north. They are one of several sets of earth mounds which adorn all the highest tops of the Crown Estates moorlands in Llananno. W/7.5.4  The Crown Estates, Mid Wales, hilltops are all over 1500 feet, (460m),and adorned with one, two or three tumuli in close set groupings. These are prominent to the naked eye within the 100 square miles of the surrounding region and much further afield when the Sun rises or sets behind them.
