A second profiled alignment at Punkree- Barawadhi megalithic complex, Jarkhand, India.

Due to his height, and alertness, Prantic Das, the young son of Subashis Das, has noted another indicated azimuth here at Punkree-Barawadhi. Using similar 'mirroring' or profiling methods as the invitation to the equinox sunrise, a high precision arrangement of stones S1, S2 and S3 indicates an azimuth of 101 degrees.

Prantic's alignment b

Prantic had noticed that, when standing behind the earthfast recumbent, the upper left corner of stone S3 presents an identical profile to that of the upper left slope of stone S2.
An earth-fast on-edge slab crossing the alignment has also been used to mark the stance for the meridional line at Rola.
The profiling method here is very similar to the carefully arranged situation more than 6000 miles distant at
Four Stones, Radnor in Mid Wales.

<Prantic's alignment c Precision profiling.
The constraints to positioning the eye are extremely refined. By moving slightly left or right the observer may bring the two profiles into vertical alignment.
By moving the eye up and down, matching the eye- height of young Prantic, the profiles are brought into horizontal align and the horizon behind then moves onto the points of the two stones. There is no other stance from which all four points can be superimposed and this spot is marked by the on-edge recumbent stone.

The refinement of this observational stance is very impressive. Once the angles of the three stones are locked together movement of the eye of more than one inch, 25mm, in either plane is immediately discernable.

Note the prominent cup mark at the pertinent place where the three stones align with the horizon behind. Cup marks are often used as indicators, or 'invitations', to observe alignments in British astronomical sites.
Prantic's alignment d

Prantic's alignment The azimuth indicated is here presented as a magnetic bearing. For this part of the world the correction to True is -1.5 degrees.

The present tree cover makes close identification of the invited declination ambiguous.
If this is a lunar alignment the moon at a Southern Minor Standstill will rise in this shutter.
If solar we may have an indication to the quarter days of an eight epoch calendar. The quarter days are equidistant from solstices and equinoxes. In the Gregorian Calendar- 5th February and 6th November.
At these declinations, with the corresponding dates in the spring and summer- 7th May and 6th August, and solstices and equinoxes, the year is divided into eight equal parts.
See Megalithic Calendar page 1.
